A NEW venue surely warranted something new from the KL International (KLIAV) Show. While I hear that most people were expecting the same old same old, I was pleased to see a number of new set-ups for the event. There was a good mixture of Asian products and the usual European/American brands.

AS with previous years, the Editor didn’t really give me any specific items to cover at this year’s KLIAV Show, its 25th edition. I decided my take on this year’s show would have a loudspeaker-focussed slant.

VINYL at this year’s KL International Audio Visual (KLIAVS) Show was reminiscent of one of my favourite classical pieces, namely Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition which is a suite of 10 pieces with a varied promenade, as I strolled through the exhibition rooms seeking an analogue musical journey.

A rare appearance by the legendary FM Acoustics is one of the highlights of the ongoing KL International Audio Visual (KLIAVS) Show 2018.

IT is just past the halfway point of the year, but it’s also the time when Malaysian audiophiles whip themselves into a frenzy – this when the KL International AV (KLIAVS) Show comes around. KLIAVS 2017 was held at the Sunway Putra Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, a change after 16 consecutive years at the JW Marriot Hotel.

The KLIAV Show is an event local audiophiles and exhibitors look forward to every year, but I was (as I had been in previous years) in two minds whether I would be going. Judging from the word-of-mouth feedback, I had expected it would be a mundane affair. It also had the misfortune of happening at the same time as the Thai International High End show and many a manufacturer seems to have opted to send their representatives there instead.

Named in a tribute to the capital city, the KL International AV Show held in Kuala Lumpur is designed to showcase the latest technology and innovations that the world's audio and video consumer electronic companies have to offer discerning enthusiasts from all walks of Malaysian society.

The KLIAVS 2017 kicked off this morning in a simple ceremony officiated by Dick Tan, Organising Chairman, KL International AV Show 2017, and Michael Monks, General Manager, Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, at about 9.15am.

ANALOGUE, not surprisingly, refused to keep a low profile at this year’s Kuala Lumpur International AV (KLIAVS) Show, in its 16th year at the J.W. Marriott (July 22-24). It helped no end that two names currently a-buzzing in the turntable industry had their principals present at the show – Kronos and VPI. Yes, there was streaming media, and you could spot the occasional high-end CD player… but for funky looks, cutting-edge technology and the wow factor… turntables ruled the roost again.
